We finger painted yesterday afternoon. I took this photo with the dslr that I'm borrowing from a friend. All the rest of the photos in this post are brought to you by the mediocrity that only an iPhone can provide. 

...watching Netflix. Lately it's been loads of 30 Rock, Running Wilde, Arrested Development, and Freaks and Geeks.

Veronica's painting. She told me it's a dinosaur, and a snake in the sky. 

...instagramming a snap everyday, with the hashtag #photoaday2013. I love the idea of being able to easily see what I thought was notable from each day of this year. In 2012, I tried a couple of picture-a-day projects, with a theme or assignment for each day, but those felt like too much pressure. Mine are not anything particular. Just something that I feel is part of the day.

It took a bit of convincing, to get Clarissa to start painting. Once her fingers were dirty, she couldn't be stopped!

...tasting several variations on a balsamic vinegar reduction sugar syrup. I've been experimenting with different vinegars and different sugars, as well as the ratios, trying to create the perfect syrup to swirl into cookie dough. Would you eat cookies made with balsamic vinegar?

I just want to squeeze those cheeks!

...listening to Clarissa and Veronica's stories about parades, the zoo, Bay Beach, the moon, their Bubba, aunties, and uncles, and their many stuffed animals. I adore listening to them recall time spent with their family. They've also been into "reading" to each other, to me, and to their baby dolls lately. There are some books that they can recite in surprising detail. Who knew 2 1/2 year old kids could be so fun and so fascinating?

Clarissa is a focused artist. It was difficult to get any shots of her looking up from her work.

...learning to step back and not break up every fight between Veronica and Clarissa. When I let them negotiate their own problems, they get back to playing just as quickly. I have been trying to only step in, if one or both of them has been physically hurt, unless they come to me. It's hard to hear them shouting at one another, but I know it'll be for the best, in the long run. Any tips for helping little ones learn to cooperate, share, and get along?
