Lots of Finger Foods

C and V are set on feeding themselves these days. Tonight they had the same supper as we did. We had baked potato wedges with sauteed veggies in a creamy tomato sauce. The veggies included mushrooms, asparagus, green beans, tomatoes, onions, and corn. The girls liked all the veggies they were offered. We also had applesauce and the girls had frozen blueberries and mango. The fruit was slightly thawed and the berries were cut in half.

Recently, they tried peach pancakes (made with diced peaches, whole wheat flour and flax and formula in place of milk). They have started eating pretty much all of the fruits and veggies that they ate in puree form, but now they're eating them cut up into small pieces. We've also added polenta and 8 grain hot cereal (http://www.bobsredmill.com/8-grain-hot-cereal.html). I make the cereal with formula and either fruit or peanut butter mixed in.

Cleaning up after meal time takes much longer now. C and V get themselves very messy and there is usually an outfit change (they take their bibs off) and we have to wash their faces, hands and hair after they eat. When they eat, they miss their mouths quite a bit and food ends up all over their booster seats and the floor. Plus, V has decided that it is fun to intentionally throw food on the floor, too. It is quite a sight to see the kitchen after a meal. The thrill of seeing my girls so happy to try new foods is amazing, and well worth the time and energy required to do the clean up.

We're going out to eat for my husband's birthday this weekend. I can't wait to share food with them and see what new things they will try. I'll try to post pics soon.
